KBM Attorneys Successfully Defend Puyallup Jail

by KBM Lawyers

Keating Bucklin attorneys Richard Jolley and Jeremy Culumber just successfully completed a nine day jury trial in Tacoma’s federal court.  They were defending the city of Puyallup from allegations that the jail’s security cameras were improperly filming and recording women in jail holding cells.  In media coverage including CNN, ABC’s 20/20 and every local print and film outlet, Plaintiffs’ attorneys portrayed the use of the security cameras as tools being improperly used for the sexual gratification of jail staff.  The media took the allegations of the plaintiffs at face value and presented lurid media accounts alleging the jail was run like a “peep show” and jail staff were “voyeurs”.  Once the suit was filed, and discovery was conducted, it became evident such sensational allegations were baseless.  The federal judge, the Honorable Robert J. Bryan, dismissed the voyeurism and “strip search” claims leaving only the alleged privacy violations to be determined by the jury.  Following the presentation of evidence, the jury ruled in Puyallup’s favor and apparently agreed that the city’s use of security cameras furthered the safety and security of jail staff and inmates alike.
